Lee Co. minister charged with inappropriate internet conduct with a child

ALBANY, GA (WTVM) -

A former children's minister at an Albany church and Lee Co., Ga. school substitute teacher is charged with inappropriate internet conduct with a child.

Alexander Edwards was arrested by Lee Co. sheriffs. He has been fired after serving 3 years as a children's minister at Providence Church.

Investigators say a child's parents contacted them after finding an inappropriate message on social media from Edwards.

Authorities say they talked with other anxious parents but do not believe Edwards had inappropriate contact with their children.

"They have cooperated with us one hundred percent. It's not like they were trying to hide anything. So I hope nothing else comes of it. I don't think anything else is going to come of it, but then again you never know," says Thomas Goodwin of the sheriff's office.

GBI forensic experts are going over Edward's computer equipment. He was released on bond.

Lee Co. school officials say he will not be allowed to substitute again at their schools.
