ALBANY, GA (WTVM) -

Firefighters across Georgia will soon begin taking classes through a new program at Albany State University to earn four year degrees and pursue administrative positions.

Albany State and Albany Technical College began a partnership to allow tech college graduates to transfer into a new Bachelor's Program in Fire Services Administration. The program includes 11 technical colleges across the state.

"We have probably a good 30 percent that hold Associates Degrees in Fire Science. And I'm pretty sure in the future, with this new program at Albany State, they probably will be enrolling and going further," says Rubin Jordan, Albany Fire Department Assistant Chief of the training division.

The program is offered online so firefighters can fit classes into their work schedules. Albany State is the only university in Georgia to offer this degree.
