Thousands of dollars of stolen items recovered in Auburn thefts

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - For months, residents of the Grove Hill and Moores Mill neighborhoods in Auburn have been living on edge after a string of home burglaries in June.

However, after months of collaboration between the Auburn Police Division and the Montgomery Police Department, homeowners can rest easy knowing most of their stolen property will soon be returned.

"Some of the homeowners had the opportunity to come by today and actually look at the property in an attempt to identify it and once that property is documented, catalogued and photographed, it can be returned to the owner and that gives us what we need to go into court with the evidence being identified as being taken in these burglaries," explains Captain Lorenza Dorsey of the Auburn Police Division.

Last month, three arrests were made in connection to the case.

Bobby Townsend, Linda Townsend and Damion Payne all of Montgomery, are believed to have worked together to steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of valuables from these homes including electronics, jewelry, designer hand bags and firearms.

"It's fortunate that we have law enforcement in this area and we can work that closely together for a common goal and recover property and put these criminals in jail," says Dorsey.

The case remains under investigation and authorities are continuing to retrieve the last of the stolen items.
