LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) -

A father of two and an aspiring college student in LaGrange is dead after a verbal argument spun out of control early Friday morning.

Police have arrested 55-year-old Thomas Sessions for the murder of 21-year-old Douglas Cameron.

News Leader 9's Curtis McCloud visited the crime scene on Friday and spoke with the victim's mother Katina Cameron.

"My baby rose up, and he looked at me and I told him, ‘It's going to be alright, just relax lay down, it's going to be alright."

Those were the last words Katina Cameron said to her son Douglas as he lay dying in the back of an ambulance after he was shot in the back with a shotgun in LaGrange.

Katina said she had spoken with her son not long before the shooting. She tells us Douglas was going to meet Thomas Sessions to collect a debt that was owed to him, but Sessions didn't want to pay up.

"Instead of him going to get money, he went and got a gun," said Katina. "He went and got a gun and he came back and shot my child over some nonsense...over some money. Senseless and uncalled for."

Katina's son was a father of 2-year-old twin girls and an aspiring college student. His daughters now have to grow up never knowing their father.

Though Sessions has been caught, Katina says it's a loss for both families and she has a message for youth: to be productive and come in off the streets.

"Pulling these guns and shooting each other trying to prove that you are bad that you don't take no mess, you think that's good?" Katina said. "Naw but guess what? When you go to jail and when you are in jail guess what, everybody forget you on the streets."
