Mother of shooting victim speaks out after son shot and killed over money


A father of two and an aspiringcollege student in LaGrange is dead after a verbal argument spun out of controlearly Friday morning.

Police have arrested55-year-old Thomas Sessions for the murder of 21-year-old Douglas Cameron.

News Leader 9's CurtisMcCloud visited the crime scene on Friday and spoke with the victim's motherKatina Cameron.

"My baby rose up, andhe looked at me and I told him, ‘It's going to be alright, just relax lay down,it's going to be alright."

Those were the last wordsKatina Cameron said to her son Douglas as he lay dying in the back of anambulance after he was shot in the back with a shotgun in LaGrange.

Katina said she had spokenwith her son not long before the shooting. She tells us Douglas was going tomeet Thomas Sessions to collect a debt that was owed to him, but Sessionsdidn't want to pay up.

"Instead of him goingto get money, he went and got a gun," said Katina. "He went and got a gun andhe came back and shot my child over some nonsense...over some money. Senselessand uncalled for."

Katina's son was a fatherof 2-year-old twin girls and an aspiring college student. His daughters nowhave to grow up never knowing their father.

Though Sessions has beencaught, Katina says it's a loss for both families and she has a message foryouth: to be productive and come in off the streets.

"Pulling these gunsand shooting each other trying to prove that you are bad that you don't take nomess, you think that's good?" Katina said. "Naw but guess what? When you go tojail and when you are in jail guess what, everybody forget you on thestreets."
