HOGANSVILLE, GA (WTVM) -

Three people from Hogansville have been arrested after the elderly woman they were caring for was found lying on the floor surrounded by urine and feces.

The three suspects were collecting the stroke victim's social secutiry checks.

33-year-old Elizabeth L. Register, 31-year-old Stephen B. Register, and 37-year-old Elizabeth A. Minnix have been arrested and charged with cruelty to a person 65 years of age or older.

On Saturday August 10, officers from the Hogansville Police Department responded to a residence on Dickinson Street after receiving a complaint about an elderly woman being abused and neglected by her caretakers.

When officers arrived at the residence they knocked on the door which was answered by Stephen B. Register. As the door opened the officers noticed a strong odor of ammonia and feces along with the smell of garbage.

Hogansville Police said Register invited them into the residence where they were met by Elizabeth L. Register and Elizabeth A. Minnix. Inside the residence, the smell of ammonia, feces and garbage was noticeably stronger.

The officers questioned the three occupants and soon discovered an elderly female victim who was lying on the wood floor in urine and feces, with a sheet draped over her that also was also covered in feces.

During the investigation it was also determined that the elderly female victim had not received her medication for about two weeks.

The elderly female victim was transported to the West Georgia Medical Center for evaluation and referral to Adult Protective Services.

The three occupants were arrested and transported to the Troup County Jail.
