AMERICUS, GA (WTVM) - An Americus man isn't letting his mental and physical challenges keep him from serving his church. Eastside Baptist member Dorsey McMath has been collecting aluminum cans for two years to raise money to help construct a new church building.
The cans sell for only 60 cents per pound, but Dorsey has raised nearly $8,000 for the church.
Wayne Gosa teaches Sunday school at Eastside Baptist and knows Dorsey well.
"Dorsey is something else. He is our greeting, if you come on Sunday morning, one of the first people you will see is Dorsey. Our preacher said one time, if there is a church that doesn't have Dorsey they are missing a lot," he says.
The construction project continues. Church leaders aren't sure when it will be finished, but they say they couldn't have done it without Dorsey's help.
