LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Lee County officials are urging commuters to use extreme caution as they travel to and from home Thursday, particularly Lee Road 146 near Society Hill Road and Moores Mill Road.

The east bound side of 146 crossing a creek located near Alabama Highway 51 is underwater and unsafe for travel.

This area will remain close until repairs can be made.

It is dangerous as rain is continuing to fall.

One Lee County Deputy came across trouble as he was on patrol this morning.

"The roads can become covered in a matter of minutes and it is extremely hazardous to vehicles. One of our patrol units about 4:00 AM this morning actually became disabled by high water on one of the roadways in the process of checking the roads. Everything is fine, we were able to get the vehicle out of the water but it just emphasizes the point that you have to be extremely careful," explains Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

Beginning Friday at six AM, one lane of Lee Road 146 at the creek will be opened to allow single lane traffic to pass through during daylight hours, but will close again at eight PM.

Lee County highway crews will be at the site. Drivers are asked to use this road only if absolutely necessary and to use extreme caution.
