(WTVM) -

Highway crews are working to repair the storm damage done to Lee Road 146 crossing a creek near Alabama Highway 51.

Rain has hit east Alabama hard the past couple of days and isn't expected to stop anytime soon, increasing the chance for flash flooding.

"It can happen within in minutes and we encourage people to be extremely careful with all the water particularly on the roadway. Call us and let us know if they observe something in an area so we can address that issue with our highway department," says Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

One Lee County Deputy found themselves deep in the flood waters around 4:00 AM this morning.

As the patrol unit was searching for flooded roadways they became trapped in high water.

"Everything is fine, we were able to get the vehicle out of the water but it just emphasizes the point that you have to be extremely careful," says Jones.

Beginning Friday at 6:00 AM, one lane of Lee Road 146 will be opened to allow single lane traffic to pass through during daylight hours, but will close again at 8:00 PM through the weekend.

Lee County highway crews will be at the site.

Drivers are asked to use this road only if necessary and to use extreme caution.
