Georgia, Alabama to receive millions in federal funding for Navigator Program

Posted: Updated:

The State of Georgia will receive $3.8 million to fund counselors who will aid in the newly announced Navigator Program.  The State of Alabama will receive more than $1.4 million for the same purpose.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the money will help uninsured people find health insurance coverage.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says, "This project has been that very work, reaching into the communities, letting people know the benefits in the children's insurance program, and it's kind of a logical step to now say a lot of parents, for instance, of those children will now be eligible for the program."

The state level exchanges are set to be online by October 1, when people in these states will be able to start shopping for insurance under the new law.
