(RNN) How do you follow a masterpiece like Sharknado?

What could possibly rival the Syfy network's viral phenomenon that featured a smorgasbord of B-list actors being eaten alive by giant sharks swirled inland by a killer tornado?

Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Ghost Shark, premiering Thursday, Aug. 22.

Syfy believes the new movie could exceed the cable-tastic numbers put up by their previous film, whose audience grew with each successive showing, topping out at close to 2 million.

The plot is stark, simple and … delightfully stupid:

A shark murdered by a fisherman returns from the dead to haunt – and eat – its human enemies. The toothy killer's targets are not safe in the ocean, the swimming pool or even in the bathtub.

In hopes of reigniting the social media chain-lighting that swept Sharknado to instantaneous infamy, scenes of spectacular gore will include prompts encouraging fans to tweet of the wonder they are beholding. Viewers will be asked to recount their own ghostly - and sharkly - experiences.

Syfy will feature all-day shark programming leading up to the premiere.

A Syfy executive called Michael Engelman believes the network that also gave us Arachnoquake and Sharktopus can capitalize on the momentum created by Sharknado to push Ghost Shark to stratospheric viewership.

"I think Ghost Shark shares a lot of the same DNA as Sharknado," he told the New York Post. "It's fun escapism that doesn't take itself too seriously."
