PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Dollar General is proud to recognize employee Mickeal Hanson with a 2013 Serving Others award for his commitment to the company’s mission of Serving Others

Hanson was honored for his philanthropic commitment to volunteerism with Girls Club of Phenix City, Ala., which organizes after-school and summer programs to help build character of young women.

In a special ceremony at a recent company meeting, Hanson was presented the Serving Others award and to further recognize his work, Dollar General will present a $2,500 grant to the Doris C. Weaver Girls Club on his behalf.

For 13 years, Hanson has been a board member for the Girls Club of Phenix City, Ala. Hanson also actively volunteers his time to several other organizations including the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Southeastern Fire Chiefs, Alabama Fire Chiefs Association, American Red Cross, Local Muscular Dystrophy Association and Woodmen of the World.

“As second vice president of our board, Mike has been an integral part of our Girls Club,” said Linda Parker, director. “He is always willing to assist with our fundraisers and special  projects. Over the years, Mike has volunteered his time, energy and resources to serve the Girls Club in a variety of ways. We are thankful for Mike's willingness to give back to the community in this way.”

Dollar General’s mission of Serving Others and the Serving Others award is presented to employees who live out this mission every day, both at work and in their personal lives. This fall, seven Dollar General employees were honored with the company’s Serving Others award.
