Two companies set to expand in Opelika

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Opelika is continuing to grow.

Two companies have announced they are expanding and planning to invest millions of dollars into the city.

"Of course we think they made the right choice and a great decision to come to our community and I think it says something about the work ethic of our people and the business atmosphere that is here in Opelika, Lee County and East Alabama," says Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller.

Pharmavite, one of the nation's largest manufacturers of vitamins, plans to invest an additional $16.4 million and hire 17 employees over the next two years.

The initial investment in Opelika was $73 million and they currently have 245 associates.

Pharmavite's Opelika facility has been in operation for less than a year and officials couldn't be more pleased with the progress.

"Our expectations since we started building this facility and began production this year have been exceeded. The support we receive from the community leaders reinforces the fact that we made the right choice when we selected Opelika in 2011," explains Lance Buchanan, Opelika Site Director for Pharmavite.

"This is the first of what I think will be a number of expansions, This will get their capital investment close to $90 million that they've invested in Opelika," says Fuller.

West Fraser Incorporated is also making plans to expand in Opelika.

The company has announced they will invest over $41 million dollars into their facility and create 15 new positions over the next three years.

"We are very excited about their expansion," says Fuller. "The first phase will probably be nine to ten million dollars to increase their production capabilities."
