Lee Co. Sheriff's Department releases smartphone app

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A new free app developed by the Lee County Sheriff's Department is ready for download for iPhone and Android users.

"It's a way for us to stay in touch with the public," says Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

The app, titled Lee County Sheriff's Office Alabama, allows the public to obtain information regarding public safety including daily news and crime reports, most wanted individuals and sex offenders.

It also has features that allows you to anonymously text tips about crimes you see in the area.

"We look at it as a way to provide information that may help us to get information in return that would help us to do our jobs and be as efficient as possible," explains Sheriff Jones.

This app will also keep you updated on information concerning your commute.

For example, a message was released Thursday Aug. 22 saying Alabama Highway 51, just south of Lee Road 146 in Beauregard, will be closed beginning Monday, August 26.

"They expect it to close for a few days," says Sheriff Jones. "They are replacing a cross drain culvert that was damaged with all the heavy rainfall we had last week."
