ALBANY, GA (WTVM) - Construction workers had nearly finished building a new chapel on MLK St. in Albany when it caught on fire.
Nathaniel Payne, the owner of Martin Luther King Memorial Chapel's funeral home, says the new chapel was about 90% complete before it burned down.
He says the building is a total loss, and estimates the damage to be about $150,000.
The new chapel was going to be 3,500 sq ft, and seat about 200 people.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire. Fire officials are investigating the cause.
