New judge appointed to oversee Victoryland court proceedings

Judge Tom Young Judge Tom Young
TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

A new judge has been selected to oversee the Victoryland gaming center hearings following the Alabama Supreme Court's decision to remove Judge Tom Young last week.

Following his removal from the case, Judge Young selected Macon County's next senior judge, Ray Martin, to oversee the hearings.

Young was removed from the case following requests to the Supreme Court by the Alabama Attorney General's office which argued Young was prejudiced for Victoryland.

Victoryland owner Milton McGregor's attorney's have accused Attorney General Luther Strange's office of "judge shopping" to find a judge who will agree with the State's position that Victoryland is operating illegal slot machines.

Judge Martin will oversee the case in which AG Strange's office seized more than 1,600 gaming machines and nearly a quarter million dollars in cash following a raid in February 2013.

Victoryland has fought the state of Alabama for several years regarding the legality of its machines. It says they're legal electronic bingo machines. The state disagrees.
