Council approves rezoning for CSU Golf Complex

The Columbus State University Golf team will soon have a new place to hit the green. With approval at Tuesday night's city council meeting the area across the street from the school on University Avenue will be home to a $2 million Golf Sports Complex.

"There is a big difference between offering golf classes at place that you could walk to," says John Lester, Assistant Vice President of University Relations. "It's literally right across the street from campus."

The project will have several stages and will be funded through private donations. We are told the Complex will be used for student golf classes, the CSU golf teams, and special tournaments. With the unanimous approval from the council, Lester says the project will move ahead.

"This clears a way for us to forward and finish our fund raising so that we can begin construction of the driving range and golf studio there on University Avenue, just across the street from campus," Lester said.

Once funds are raised, land will be cleared and work will take shape on the new complex. Lester says that council's approval is the beginning of great things to come for CSU students.

"It will help our students who are learning how to play golf and greatly increase the visibility and usability of our golf program and NCA program," he says.
