AUGUSTA, GA (WTVM) - A project four years in the making is officially kicking off to help our veterans.
Hope House plans to renovate three abandoned buildings on the Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta.
The $8 million project known as "Freedom's Path" is part of the federal government's goal to end veteran homelessness by 2015.
The buildings can house nearly 100 permanent and transitional apartments for veterans.
The Augusta commission approved the project back in 2010 with restrictions to employ a 24 hour staff and create a secured entrance.
