Military Matters: Fort Benning MWR prepares for End of the Summer Auction

If you enjoy bargain shopping, mark September 10, 2013 on your calendar. Fort Benning will be holding its End of Summer Auction at the NAF Warehouse on Prussman Street.

A variety of items such as bikes, boats, fans and fridges will be sold to the highest bidders.

Bridgett Siter, The Directorate of Welfare, Morale and Recreation, is organizing the event. She says, "The greatest part of MWR is NAF, non-appropriated funds. That means we don't get money from congress or the taxpayers. We have to operate as a business, so this facility, what they do here, is wonderful for Fort Benning MWR, and for our families, because whatever funds are generated here go right back into our programs and businesses."

Anyone interested in the items for sale is encouraged to peruse the merchandise ahead of time.

Janice Jemison, NFA Warehouse Chief, says she is expecting bidders from all over the Southeast to attend this event. "My customers can come on the sixth and the ninth of September, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day," she says. "On these dates they can register, get their bidder's number and they can preview all the items for sale."

The auction begins at 9 a.m. on the September 10, but participants are encouraged to arrive early as the lines are expected to be long.
