Columbus native Miss Atlanta 2014 visits WTVM!

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

It hasn't been too long since the Miss Georgia competition took place back in June, but the young lady who was crowned as the new Miss Atlanta 2014 stopped by our studio today.

Shelby Lynn Rice, a Columbus native, was here today to talk about Girl Talk, a national organization that encourages high school girls to mentor middle school girls.

Rice struggled with confidence and eating disorders growing up, and the Miss Atlanta title gives her the chance to help others

"Well I really wanted the Atlanta title because I wanted to take my platform to a whole new level," said Shelby. "It's going to open a whole another door for me so I can serve the community. My ultimate goal is to truly make a difference. I want to say at the end of my year, as miss Atlanta or whether I miss GA or going away to Miss America…at the end of the year, I want to be able to say I made a positive impact in girls lives and people's lives."

Miss Atlanta is Shelby Lynn Rice's third title. She won miss Heart of the City last February and Miss Gwinnett County last September. Shelby currently holds both titles of Miss Gwinnett County and Atlanta.

She attends Kennewsaw University and majors in nursing.
