Slow economy may be advantage for Columbus during Labor Day weekend

(WTVM) -

Mike Gaymon from the Chamber of Commerce a slow economy mayactually be an advantage for the Chattahoochee Valley this Labor Day weekend.

When visitors come to the area, they tend to visit severalattractions. In return, Columbus receives a boost in its economy.

"When gasoline is $3.40 to $3.50 a gallon, when costs areup, people tend to stay closer to home," says Gaymon. "So now, a family of fourin Atlanta, rather than going to Disney World, might decide why don't we go toColumbus?"

Gaymon says he expects most visitors to stop by the NationalInfantry Museum, locally-owned restaurants, and of course, take a trip onwhitewater rafting course.
