Slow economy may be advantage for Columbus during Labor Day weekend

Mike Gaymon from the Chamber of Commerce a slow economy may actually be an advantage for the Chattahoochee Valley this Labor Day weekend.

When visitors come to the area, they tend to visit several attractions. In return, Columbus receives a boost in its economy.

"When gasoline is $3.40 to $3.50 a gallon, when costs are up, people tend to stay closer to home," says Gaymon. "So now, a family of four in Atlanta, rather than going to Disney World, might decide why don't we go to Columbus?"

Gaymon says he expects most visitors to stop by the National Infantry Museum, locally-owned restaurants, and of course, take a trip on whitewater rafting course.
