City of Auburn to hold property tax referendum forum

Posted: Updated:

The City of Auburn will be hosting a public forum on Thursday, September 5 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the September 24 property tax referendum.

School Superintendent Dr. Karen DeLano, School Board President Matt Clegg and Auburn Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. will discuss the referendum and will be available to answer questions.

The forum will take place in the Auburn Council Chambers at 141 North Ross Street.

In December of 2012, the Auburn City Board of Education requested that an election be held for Auburn voters to consider a 9-mill property tax increase to fund the construction of a new high school in Auburn. The Alabama State Legislature authorized the election in the 2013 regular legislative session.

The Auburn City Council has set September 24, 2013 as the election date.
