SAN DIEGO (KSWB/CNN) - A former teacher is suing after she and her children were banned from a Catholic school.

Carie Charlesworth was fired after her abusive husband showed up at school, violating a restraining order.

The school doesn't have to follow typical employment laws, and now she's suing the San Diego Archdiocese.

"There's nothing I could have done different except go to school that one day and keep my mouth shut," she said. "There's nothing I could have done differently that would have changed the outcome of this. Hopefully this lawsuit will help other victims of domestic violence feel comfortable enough to approach their employer."

Charlesworth is suing for breach of contract, invasion of privacy, slander and negligence.
