Alabama State Troopers investigated five fatal traffic crashes that resulted in six deaths over the 2013 Labor Day travel period.

These crashes occurred in Blount, Chambers, DeKalb, Limestone and Marengo counties.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at least one of these deadly accidents involved alcohol. Seat belts were available to four of the six individuals killed, but only three were using seat belts. The other fatal crashes involved a motorcyclist and a pedestrian.

This figure is significantly lower than the reports released from Georgia State Patrol, saying that 14 people died in automobile accidents in Georgia over the holiday weekend.

The Labor Day travel period began at 6 p.m. Friday, August 30, and ran through midnight of Monday, September 2.
