MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama State Troopers investigated 5 crashes involving six traffic fatalities over the Labor Day 2013 holiday weekend. The period lasted from 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, through midnight Monday, Sept. 2.

The crashes happened in Blount, Chambers, DeKalb, Limestone and Marengo counties.

Based on preliminary investigation, at least one of these fatal crashes involved alcohol, Troopers said.

Seat belts were available to four of the six individuals killed, but only three were using seat belts. The other fatal crashes involved a motorcyclist and a pedestrian.

Nothing further is available on these deaths as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

Troopers say there may be more fatalities across the state, even though the did not specifically investigate them. The full state numbers are not yet available.
