Mayor Teresa Tomlinson has issued a proclamation declaring Friday, September 6, 2013 as Valley Rescue Mission Day in the state of Georgia.

The proclamation came during a City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 3.

Earlier this summer, State Senator Ed Harbison of District 15 also declared September 6 to be Valley Rescue Mission Day.

The date will mark exactly 50 years of ministry for the Valley Rescue Mission, which was incorporated in the State of Georgia in on September 6, 1963.

The Mission provides free services to men, women and children in temporary need of food, clothing, shelter, household goods, life skills training, and addiction recovery assistance. Over the fifty years of its ministry, Valley Rescue Mission has provided 3.7 million nutritious meals, 1.2 million nights of free, secure lodging, and has seen 12,000 children enjoy a free week of summer camp at Camp JOY.

On Thursday, September 26, Valley Rescue Mission will be sponsoring its 50th Anniversary Banquet at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center in order to celebrate this milestone. Pastor and author Dr. Tony Evans will be the keynote speaker for the event.

The Banquet is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at or by calling 706-322-8267.
