FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

Honor to whom honor is due: Staff Sergeant Michael Guza has been awarded a Purple Heart.

SSgt. Guza earned this prestigious medal for injuries he sustained while serving during operation "Enduring Freedom" in September 2011.

Fort Benning's commanding General Major H.R. McMaster presented the medal Wednesday afternoon.

SSgt. Guza, a Calvary Scout, currently serves as a small group leader and instructor at the non-commissioned officer academy on Fort Benning.
