(WTVM) - In a few days, gator hunting season will start in Georgia.
The Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologists say the popularity of reality shows such as Swamp People has spurred an interest in gator hunting.
In 2003 about 2,500 people applied for gator hunting licenses. Last year, that number swelled to more than 11,000.
Only 850 people will be selected.
The record Georgia gator was harvested three years ago when hunters snagged a 13' 9" swamp monster from the waters of Lake Seminole.
The season lasts from September 7 to October 6.
