Findings show manufacturing output in Georgia is declining.

An index that measures manufacturing activity dropped for the fifth month in a row in August.

It's well below the national average and below the threshold that indicates a growing economy.

Cynthia George, Chair of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Board, says that doesn't necessarily mean our economy is shrinking, because small businesses are the backbone of the economy.

"We have to look at small business because you know the Albany Area Chamber is made up of over 80 percent our membership is small business and that's what makes the economy move in the Albany area," said George.

According to the new manufacturing report Georgia plants are getting more new orders for business, but their production, employment, and deliveries are all down.
