TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

A 69-year-old woman was recuperating in a Tucson-area hospital after a man scouting for deer heard her cries for help from the bottom of Box Canyon on Sunday afternoon.

Margret Brummer, of Green Valley, had fallen about 100 feet after falling over the edge of the canyon Saturday, according to a spokesman with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The man was scouting the area for deer Saturday and saw a car parked on the side of the road. It was still there when he returned to scout again Sunday. He went to investigate and heard Brummer calling for help, the spokesman said.

He called authorities after seeing her in the canyon below.

Rescue personnel hiked into the canyon and treated Brummer for head and body injuries. She was placed on a stretcher, placed into a hoist sling and was airlifted out of the canyon by helicopter.

Box Canyon is about 40 miles south of Tucson, between Green Valley and Sonoita.
