MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mesa man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after a woman was found bleeding and screaming for help.

Enrique Carrillo Jr., 26, was booked into jail after a struggle with Mesa police officers about 3:20 a.m. Saturday.

Police went to a home near Gilbert Road and Hampton Avenue after reports of a bleeding woman screaming for help, according to a police report.

Officers followed a trail of blood to an apartment where a woman was heard crying inside, according to the report.

Carrillo Jr. barricaded the door and refused to step away, claiming he had done nothing wrong, according to the report.

Officers kicked in the door and found the woman with a cut to her left eye and swelling, according to the report. Carrillo Jr. is suspected of throwing a heavy object and striking her, taking her cell phone and breaking it as she attempted to call 911, the report said.

Carrillo Jr. began kicking and striking at officers during a search of the residence and was wrestled to the ground by officers, causing a small cut to his chin, according to the report.

Carrillo Jr. was booked into jail on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment, domestic violence assault and disorderly conduct, and intentionally preventing or interfering with the use of a telephone in an emergency.
