COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Red Cross is in desperate need of blood and now is your opportunity to donate.
The Red Cross hosted a blood drive at their chapter headquarters on Rosemont Drive in Columbus. The drive ended at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
We caught up with one donor who explains how growing up in Guam gave her a different perspective on the importance of giving blood.
"You have numerous type wounds, and a lot of people like FEMA or Red Cross coming in, and not only were they asking for monetary donations, but another donation that they need was blood, so that's where it started, back in Guam," said Geri Anne Smith. "Everyone's gotta give somehow and take care of each other, so this is one of my ways to do that."
