PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A death row inmate awaiting a retrial has been reunited with her mother after spending nearly a quarter century behind bars.

Debra Milke was released on bond from the Maricopa County Jail on Friday and her mother, Renate Janka, flew from Germany to Phoenix on Sunday to see her daughter, according to Milke's attorneys, Michael Kimerer and Lori Voepel.

According to Janka, holding her daughter again was "a long, long wished-for moment in our lives, and when it happened, we couldn't let go of each other."

Janka said for 23 years, she's only seen her daughter wearing orange in prison. Inmates serving on death row are not allowed contact with visitors.

Milke was convicted in 1990 in the murder of her 4-year-old son and sent to death row.

Milke, whose conviction was overturned in March by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, was released, under electronic monitoring, while she awaits her retrial.

Milke's next court date is set for Sept. 23.

Milke has asked that Detective Armando Saldate's testimony be removed regarding Milke's alleged confession.

Milke disputes giving a confession.

Her 1990 conviction was reversed because evidence of Saldate's history of misconduct was not disclosed during Milke's first trial.
