(WTVM) - Georgia is making an effort to reduce the number of tractor trailer crashes.
Through Saturday, commercial vehicle inspectors will be in the state checking brakes and big rigs. Meanwhile, some truck drivers say everyone can do their part to prevent accidents.
Two things people can do is to stay out of trucker's blind spot and avoid slamming on your brakes.
Of the 5,000 deaths a year in tractor trailer crashes, 68% are in rural areas and 98% of the victims are in passenger vehicles.
