SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah came in at No. 6 in Travel + Leisure's America's Strangest People survey.

Ranking higher than New York, Seattle and even Los Angeles in an offbeat category of the magazine's annual Americas Favorite Cities survey, readers rank 35 metropolitan areas for features such as live music, food trucks and the character of their residents.

Such survey categories range from smart, attractive, or in Savannah's case -  "lovably weird".  The Hostess City was noted for its love for historic ghost stories and for bucking the notion of southern propriety.

The survey pointed out Savannah's weekly farmer's market, the cardboard-clad Live Action Role Playing Club, a bustling city happy hour atmosphere, and a mother-daughter team at Bay Street Blues that attracts an eclectic karaoke-loving crowds.

The cities ranking in the top 10 included New Orleans, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, Santa Fe,  Savannah, Seattle, New York, Providence and Nashville.
