COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

According to the Columbus Police Department, LaShonda Barnes has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery for pouring a pot of boiling water on her boyfriend.

Barnes told police that her boyfriend went through her phone and accused her of talking to other men.

There was a verbal confrontation in the kitchen when Barnes grabbed a pot from the stove and poured scalding water over her boyfriend's neck, back, face and arm.

The victim was flown to a hospital for burns that cover 15 percent of his body.

A neighbor, Latoya Wilder, says Barnes admitted to the act just after it occurred.

"She told me she threw boiling hot water on him because they had some kind of altercation down there," said Wilder. "What it was over, I don't know, but I heard a lot of glass shattering."

Another neighbor, Monica Carter, says she's never seen anything like it before.

"I've heard it in movies, and I know Al Green had grits poured on him, but never, I've never seen it," said Carter. "Pouring water on someone, that is taking it a little too far, because he could have gotten more hurt than what he was."

Barnes is currently being held in the Muscogee County Jail.
