OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Oregon Police have re-opened a case that has gone unsolved for 30 years.

For decades, friends and family of 17-year-old Sharon Ward have gone without answers. Ward's body was found in Oregon in February of 1982.

"She was dumped in a field and had been struck in the head multiple times and had her wrists slit," said Detective Sgt. Kelly Thibert of the Oregon Police Department.

Detectives at the time were never able to close the case, and Ward's killer is still at large. Police decided to take another look at the case after communicating with Ward's friend Karen Jones on Facebook.

"Right now, we're in the process of collecting all the evidence that does exist. Some of it is at different agencies," Sgt. Thibert said.

But that's only part of the puzzle.

"We're hoping that people who knew stuff back then, who may have been reluctant to come forward, come forward [now]," she said.

Jones hopes they do, too.

"There's a killer out there, who got away with murder," Jones said. "He's gotten away with murder for more than 30 years."

Detectives say new tips have already come in, and say they want to bring closure to those who knew and loved Ward.

Anyone with information should call Detective Thibert at 419-698-7102.
