The Cleveland Browns have acquired the Indianapolis Colts' first-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft for running back Trent Richardson, the team announced Wednesday evening.

Additionally, the Browns also announced that they are bringing to Cleveland for a physical RB Willis McGahee.

Browns head coach, Rob Chudzinski said this was the right decision for the team.

"The opportunity as an organization was there for us to have a chance to get better ultimately and felt like it was the right decision overall," said Chudzinski.

Many fans are shocked by the decision. Browns CEO, Joe Banner said the decision was more about the moment that presented itself and he understands the emotion the fans are experiencing.

"We have to earn their (fans) belief and trust and the decisions we're going to make as a group and I don't expect them to trust that until we prove to them that trust is well placed. So, I understand the skepticism for now, but we have to do what we think is right and move the franchise forward," said Banner.

As for the team, Chud was asked about the locker room reaction to the trade.

"The group that we have in that locker room is an extremely competitive group.  These guys understand the business aspect of football and I'm a competitive guy and I expect we'll have the same expectations, we'll have the same goals and we're going to play every week to win every week.  Nothing has changed from that standpoint," said Chudzinski.

Trent Richardson, who heard the news of his trade over the radio, spoke with reporters before leaving for the airport.

"I can't believe it. I didn't see it coming from anywhere" he said.

Trent told reporters that he loves Cleveland, but understands that this was a business decision.

"I appreciate the Browns fans, some of the best fans I've ever been around" said Richardson.

Prior to the NFL awarding compensatory selections this spring, the trade gives the Browns 10 draft selections, including a pair of first-round selections.

Cleveland previously had acquired the Steelers' third-round selection and the Colts' fourth-round choice.

"Trent's a great player and we expect him to have success in this league," said Browns CEO Joe Banner. "Right now, based on how we're building this team for sustainable success, we're going to be aggressive and do what it takes to assemble a team that consistently wins."

Browns still have running backs Chris Ogbonnaya and Bobby Rainey.

McGahee, a two-time Pro Bowler (2007, 2011), is 6-foot, 235-pound veteran in his 11th year out of Miami (Fla.). He has four 1,000-yard rushing seasons during a distinguished career.

CBS 19 will be airing the Indianapolis Colts at San Francisco 49ers game Sunday at 4:25 pm, right after the Browns vs. Ravens game.
