WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Wood County Sheriff issued a warning Thursday for residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity in their neighborhood.

A string of daytime burglaries have been occurring in Bowling Green, Luckey, Wayne and Cygnet.

The sheriff says many of the burglaries have one thing in common.

"There's a maroon minivan that has been seen in the area of several of our burglaries, and also one in our neighboring county," said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn.

In addition, Wasylyshyn says houses next to I-75 are being targeted because thieves can quickly return to the highway after breaking into the homes.

"They like things that are readily turned into cash, so anything – whether it's jewelry, flat screen TVs, laptops, guns, certainly cash," he said.

Thieves got away with $410 in cash from a home on Dunbridge. Now neighbors say they'll be keeping an eye out for anything and anyone out of the ordinary.

"Out in the country, you kind of always have to be watching out for your neighbors and watching out for anything that's unusual for this area," said Ellen Hatcher. "There's always a chance because everyone thinks no one is around."

And the sheriff says it's best to call officials if a resident sees anything unusual.

"I'd rather send a deputy 99 times to someone having furnace work done or repair work done on their house, and have it be nothing, versus the one time someone doesn't call and it's an actual burglary and we could have caught the person," he said.

Anyone with information about the burglaries should call the sheriff's office at 419-354-9001.
