It was once known as "Sin City."
Six decades ago, Phenix City, Ala. was full of gambling, prostitution, and murder.
Federal troops took over the town for a time in the 1950's. There was even a movie made about the corruption…but times are definitely changing.
WTVM gives a big thumbs up to Mayor Eddie Lowe and Phenix City leaders, who just launched a new campaign to create a new "Phenix City story," including a new slogan: Positively Phenix City – Come Grow With Us.
And there's a lot to be positive about lately, with tens of millions of dollars spent to improve Phenix City and thousands of new jobs being created.
There are great things happening, like RiverWalk improvements, a planned community center, a new Troy University campus, and a big hotel overlooking our world-class whitewater rafting course.
We encourage you to go to Phenix City, spend some money at businesses there, and see what's new along the river on the Alabama side.
You can make a small investment in the new Phenix City so "Sin City" never returns.
