CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

Chandler police are looking for a robber dubbed the "hard hat bandit" after he held up a Chase Bank branch late Thursday afternoon.

The suspect entered the bank at 1025 W. Queen Creek Rd. at 5:22 p.m. and approached a teller.

The robber was carrying an American Express card folded in half so the teller couldn't see the name on the card, officers said. When the teller told him the bank didn't accept the card, the man announced that it was a robbery.

The suspect repeatedly asked for more money. He said he had a gun and gestured to his pants. He made his thumb and finger in the shape of the gun, police said. The teller handed over some cash. The suspect then fled the building.

He is described as Hispanic and in his mid to late 30s. He is 5'8" tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has a mustache and short dark brown or black hair.

The robber was last seen wearing a white construction hard hat, prescription glasses and a black bandanna around his neck. He wore a tan, long-sleeved shirt with a yellow reflective traffic vest over it, a gold chain or watch on his right wrist and blue jeans.

People with any information concerning his whereabouts are asked to contact the FBI at 623-466-1999.
