Columbus police arrest person of interest near church school

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus police arrested a person of interest wanted for a high profile crime Tuesday morning.

Witnesses say police descended on the area surrounding Veterans Parkway and 11th Street, when officers spotted the accused man walking down the sidewalk.

Bystanders say the man ran into the parking lot of the First Baptist Activity Center, where police took him into custody.

The incident was dealt with so quickly that nearby church schools did not need to lock down.

We're waiting to hear from detectives which investigation this suspect is connected to.
