ASU ranks 9th in Playboy's Top 10 Party Schools

Arizona State University ranks ninth in Playboy magazine's list of 2013 Top 10 Party Schools.

"It goes without saying that Arizona State University does not consider Playboy magazine's evaluation of our nation's universities to be of merit," ASU spokeswoman Julie Newberg said in a statement Thursday morning.

Playboy spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey said this year's list was determined by Playboy's editors, who say they used data from resources including the National Center for Education Statistics, the NCAA, and the U.S. Economic Census, as well as feedback from Playboy's more than 12 million social media fans.

Newberg said the university requested information about what factors determined the ranking and she claims they were told by a magazine spokesperson that the press release was the only detail they are issuing regarding how they compiled the list.

The following schools earned a spot on Playboy's list:

  1. West Virginia University
  2. University of Wisconsin
  3. University of Colorado
  4. University of Southern California
  5. Florida State University
  6. University of Texas
  7. Louisiana State University
  8. University of Georgia
  9. Arizona State University
  10. University of Maryland

This is the eighth time the magazine has published its party school rankings, and the first time West Virginia has taken top honors.

In 2002, Playboy ranked ASU No. 1.

The rankings are featured in Playboy's October 2013 college issue.
