Columbus man beaten and robbed, employer offers $1K reward for information leading to arrest

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

James Thompson says he was flagged down at the intersection of 14th Ave. and 31st St. by a man who appeared to be in distress during a rainstorm. He rolled the window down to ask what was wrong.

Before he could say anything, another man entered the passenger side of his pick-up truck, and beat Thompson unconscious with a gun.

"Before, I was always a little cautious," says Thompson. "You always heard the rumors around town about how bad it's getting. And this is kind of proof about how bad it's getting.  I won't be rolling my windows down or stopping for anybody again.  Not after what I've been through."

Thompson says he has partially lost vision in one eye as a result of the beating.

The attackers got away with $60.

Thompson works for Sam Hewitt Services on Miller Road. His employer says he is putting up a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
