Our editorial earlier this week focusing on our Governor's decision to not expand Alabama's Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act elicited the following feedback via emails received and responses on wsfa.com and our WSFA 12 News station Facebook page…here are just two responses:
Bethany responded: "Here's your two minute warning Mr. Gaston: working class Alabamians are tired of footing the bill for the thousands of people abusing government programs as a way of life, and the thousands of illegal immigrants who pay no income taxes but receive government benefits nonetheless. We're standing with Gov. Bentley and calling a penalty on expansion of federal programs and Obamacare in general. We're as mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore. Pouring more money (more of our hard-earned money)into broken programs is not the answer. Fix the problems in these programs first, then if expansion is still needed, maybe we'll be inclined to consider it."
Mary gives a differing point of view with, "The Governor doesn't have the courage to stand up to the powerful party bosses when it comes to expanding Medicaid. He knows what's right; he needs courage to say the power and position of Governor is not as important as providing much needed health care coverage for 300,000 Alabamians. He has agreed and quickly changed his mind at each turn in the healthcare story. Majority of Alabamians have health insurance, we must all be advocates for those who don't. The state could be so much more healthy and those of us with insurance could pay less. The Governor knows what's right; he needs courage to face his bullies."
As always, we encourage and appreciate your feedback.
