A suspected serial kidnapper is now in custody, charged after three women identified him as the man who, over the last several months, made attempts to abduct them.

The suspect, 51-year-old Daniel Emerson, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 25 around 8 p.m. and charged with three counts of kidnapping in the 1st degree.

Emerson was wanted in connection to the August 29, 2013 kidnapping of a woman in the 1800 block of Water Avenue in which the victim said she was lured into his vehicle and held with a knife to her throat.

Authorities say the victim told them Emerson pretended to give her a ride in his white Ford Explorer but once she got inside, he put a knife to her throat and told her he, "hated N*****s".

Investigators say the victim bit Emerson on the hand, grabbed his knife and stabbed him in the chest with it. With the knife still in her hand, the woman jumped from the vehicle, ran to the Selma Police Department and reported the attack.

As investigators looked into the case, they found another victim who came forward to identify Emerson as the person who kidnapped her earlier in August.

Detectives pulled reports were victims reported similar incidents with a white male driving a white Ford Explorer or similar vehicle and found a report where a victim reported on July 16, 2013 that a white male driving a white Ford Explorer grabbed her and threw her into his vehicle at gun point. That suspect attempted to drive her to an unknown location, but she was able to jump from the vehicle before the suspect could sexually assault her.

When investigators met with the woman and showed her a photo lineup, she also identified Emerson as her attacker.

Further investigation found that the suspect is currently out of jail on bond from Hale County for similar sexual assault case and that he has a prior criminal history in the state of Vermont.

Emerson is being held at the Dallas County Jail with a bond totaling $1.5 million.
