TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sahuaro senior Cole Sterns fumbled the opening punt of the game.

A miscue that led to a Rincon touchdown and early six-nothing deficit for the Cougars. But Sahuaro ran off 55 straight points to rout the Rangers 62-12.

Sterns made quick amends for his miscue scoring three first half touchdowns, one on a 31-yard screen pass and two more on punt returns of 56 and 58 yards late in the second quarter when the game was no longer in doubt.

The Rangers (0-5) looked like they might be poised for an upset after Brad Davis turned Sterns fumble into a 10-yard touchdown and a 6-0 Rincon lead.

But the Cougars (4-1) scored on their next five possessions. Junior Derik Hall's two-yard touchdown run put Sahuaro up 7-6.

Senior quarterback Laramie Brown threw three first half touchdown passes to Sterns, Shyyrod Holton and Nic Cisney.

Hall, the cousin of former Santa Rita star and UA safety Adam Hall, also ran for an 18-yard touchdown.

The running clock was in effect in the second half as the Cougars cemented their third straight victory.

Sahuaro will face Desert View (1-4) next Friday night while Rincon travels to defending Division II State Champion Ironwood Ridge
