Van catches fire in Phenix City, driver escapes injury

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

A van caught fire in the middle of a busy intersection in Phenix City, causing a major traffic tie up. It happened at 13th and Broad streets just before 3 p.m. Monday.

News Leader 9's Dante Renzulli was at the scene earlier today.

Firefighters arrived shortly after police blocked off the area, asking pedestrians and drivers to stay away. Within a matter of minutes, firefighters had the flames extinguished and the situation under control. 

The driver of the van escaped without injury.

    COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - At approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two Dadeville residents.  The accident happened at the intersection of US Hwy 280 West and County Road 89 South just inside Tallapoosa County.  36-year-old Arlo Burton and 5-year-old Armani Burton died from their injuries at East Alabama Medical Center.  There were five members of the family in the vehicle when the driver, Arlo Burton traveling south on US Hwy 280...
