Fmr. Prattville police officer turns self in on felony charges

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A former police lieutenant with the Prattville Police Department wanted on felony charges has turned himself in to authorities.

John McDaniel now faces extortion, theft and impersonating a peace officer charges. He resigned from the Prattville Police Department in June following more than 20 years on the force.

Prattville officials say the complaints against McDaniel came after he had already resigned and referred all questions to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

The ABI is handling the case against McDaniel at the request of the Prattville Police Dept., but will not comment on the investigation.
