Pedestrian bridge between Phenix City, Columbus reopens

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The pedestrian bridge connecting Columbus and Phenix City will officially re-open Wednesday October 2.

The 14th Street Bridge will now be known as the Frank Martin Pedestrian Bridge, after the former Columbus mayor.

The structure is designed for spectators to get a better view of rafters and kayakers shooting the whitewater rapids below.

Martin was elected mayor in 1990 and served one term. During that period, Columbus passed a sales tax that led to many improvements which changed the face of the city. Martin passed away last year.
