Jekov was immediately evacuated by Life Flight to Columbus Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Jekov was born in the Dominican Republic. According to a press release, he entered the Army in March at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. He then went to Ft. Jackson, S.C., for basic training and completed advanced training at Ft. Lee, Va. Jekov arrived at Ft. Benning for basic Airborne School in September.

"This is a tragic loss," said Col. Kyle E. Lear, commander of the Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade, in a press release.  "Since Pvt.
